Treatment

The characters :
  • Doctor (Researcher)
  • Interviewer
  • Patients e.g Hulk, Spiderman, Harry Potter (three main characters)

Narration: For our mockumentary we will be following the victims of a fictional tragic mental disorder that forces people to believe they are real life movie characters of their choice.

Story-line: To do so we will include parts of interviews a narration by the interviewer and on screen camera crew or movement, we will also be filming scenes of these victims in everyday life this is where we will be using a variation of camera shots like close ups and long shots.

These shots will involve:
The hulk in everyday life, walking back from a shopping trip and surrounded by busy streets (to be filmed in london) the people around will not be actor but real people to get an authentic reaction and to support the genre Mockumentary, this being a convention, like in films; 'Borat' and 'Bruno'. We will also shoot a spider man character jump from a building's roof and talk directly to the camera before doing so. These shots will include long shots and medium long shots to show the characters from a distance. There will be shots of characters being interviewed and so this will include close ups and medium close ups. The Camera work often changing being a convention on a Mockumentary.

Props: The props we will be using include; green paint, denim shorts, spider-man costume, white overall, Hogwarts school outfits, cameras/tripods and different rooms for filming including a white backdrop.

Conventions of a Mockumentary

Mockumentary is a type of film in the comedy genre. It is not a typical comedy film as it follows the characters as though it is in fact reality, therefore the characters are aware of the cameras and interact with them.

Typical conventions of a mockumentary are:
  • Written Introduction (text on screen)
  • Character titles on screen
  • Interviews with characters
  • Voice over or Narration ( sometimes by camera crew)
  • Facts and figures displayed on screen (statistics)
  • The camera work is usually obvious on screen.

Examples of mockumentary:
  • Drop Dead Gorgeous
  • Borat
  • Bruno
  • Surfs up
  • This is Spinal Tap
  • Good Hair
This clip is from the mockumentary "Good Hair" it shows the white background that we incorporated in our work which is a typical convention of a mockumentary; we used this when interviewing the character's such as "The scientist" and "Harry Potter" cast.

This clip is part 1 of the film "Surfs up", a mockumentary which begins in the form of an interview where the interviewer is not in the shot but his voice can be heard and characters being interviewed, show full awareness of the interviewer behind the camera.
We have also included this into our opening sequence; as this was not the only mockumentary we saw; the convention being portrayed. E.g the incredibles opening sequence.
